Mark B. ("Chipp") Sandground, Jr. is a recognized leader in the fields of real estate and restaurant law, strategically working as an integral member of his client's teams - whether diligently and creatively raising private funds or negotiating leases and all aspects of setting up a business entity in order to make his client's goals a successful reality.

Chipp specializes in counseling prominent clients in the restaurant industry who read as a list of "Who's Who" in Washington, DC, Maryland and Virginia, many of them James Beard nominated chefs, restaurant owners and mixologists who are regularly featured in The Washington Post and Washingtonian magazine. Chipp sets his practice apart by representing many well-established icons in the restaurant industry as well as up-and-coming trendsetters in the nation's capital. With decades of experience, Chipp is respected for the insider's knowledge he brings to every aspect of his practice, particularly his sophisticated negotiation of commercial and retail leases. His high-profile practice provides chefs/proprietors as well as hospitality companies with advice on all aspects of their businesses including entity formation and governance issues, equity/debt financing, book publishing/name licensing, trademark, employment agreements and related corporate and real estate matters.

Chipp also has a thorough understanding of real estate development issues including negotiating joint venture transactions, entitlement procedures, tax-free exchanges, and sales and leasing agreements for retail and commercial real estate matters. Chipp has held a variety of legal and business positions including working as an Assistant Counsel for the Senate Foreign Relations Committee as well as legal and development positions at the Trammell Crow Company and The Walt Disney Company in Paris, France (Euro Disney).

Chipp also is of counsel to Kalbian Hagerty LLP , Washington DC.

Chipp graduated Stanford University with a BA degree and received his Juris Doctor (JD) from the University of Virginia School of Law. He received an MBA from The University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA). He graduated from Institute Superior d'Administration, H.E.C., Jouy-en-Josas, France. Chipp is fluent in French and English.
